Japan Communications Inc. (hereinafter referred to as "JCI") announces the development of a new version of the "Nihon Tsushin App" — currently used by customers to sign up for "Nihon Tsushin SIM" — with support for FPoS. The updated app will be made available starting June 10, 2026.
The FPoS-compatible "Nihon Tsushin App" will allow customers to set up FPoS on their smartphones by verifying their identity via My Number Card, after which a new digital certificate based on FPoS will be issued for authentication purposes. Specifically, a private key will be generated within the secure area built into the customer's smartphone, and a certification authority accredited under the Digital Signature Act will issue the corresponding digital certificate. Authentication will then be performed using the combination of the public key recorded in the digital certificate and the private key, confirming both the customer's identity and the authenticity of the request.
This enables robust authentication for logging into the customer's mypage, and the same authentication method can be used on an ongoing basis when adding new lines.
The current version of the "Nihon Tsushin App" allows customers to verify their identity during the "Nihon Tsushin SIM" sign-up process using the signature digital certificate stored on their My Number Card. However, logging into the customer's mypage currently requires an ID and password plus a verification code as a second authentication factor, and My Number Card identity verification must be performed each time a new line is added. The FPoS-compatible version of the app will significantly improve both of these processes.
JCI plans to interconnect with NTT Docomo's voice and SMS networks and is scheduled to launch new services as a Neo-Carrier based on that interconnection on November 24, 2026. By using the FPoS-compatible "Nihon Tsushin App," existing Nihon Tsushin SIM customers will be able to transition smoothly to the new Neo-Carrier services.
