JCI incorporates subsidiary in Ireland, now primed for global expansion

PDF format

Japan Communications Inc. (JCI) announced today it has received notification from the Irish Government that its subsidiary JCI Europe Communications Limited (JCI EU) was incorporated on April 15, 2016. This now makes it possible for JCI to interconnect with European mobile carriers.

JCI selected Ireland as its base for European operations because Ireland is the only English-speaking Euro currency country and is widely recognized as the Silicon Valley of Europe given the large number of ICT companies* based there. Further, JCI has a strong relationship with the Government of Ireland and can expect to receive its support in negotiations with mobile carriers in Ireland. (For more on JCI's relationship with the Government of Ireland, please see the February 9, 2010 release "Frank Seiji Sanda invited by Government of Ireland to participate in Global Irish Network" which details JCI Founder and CEO Frank Seiji Sanda's selection as the only non-Irish participant in the Global Irish Network, an advisory body for the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) and Government of Ireland).

JCI is building a global network for its secure and reliable wireless leased line service. This will be used to provide solutions that cannot be achieved using the Internet to critical fields such as the financial, automotive and medical industries, and business operations. This is supported by the continuing deregulation of the MVNO industry by the Government of Japan and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. As part of this strategy, JCI is pursuing HLR/HSS interconnections with mobile carriers in Japan and is preparing to provide service using its own SIM cards, both of which became possible following recent deregulation.

JCI is currently engaged in business discussions with a number of major manufacturers whose export markets are primarily Europe and the United States. Given their strong interest in the wireless leased line service that JCI already provides in the US, JCI undertook to incorporate in Ireland to expedite its interconnections with European and global mobile networks to facilitate their requirements.

JCI's strategy is to provide manufacturers of global devices with a single network comprising Japan, US, EU and Asia. With the establishment of JCI EU, a key piece is now in place for JCI's global expansion.

■About Japan Communications Inc.

Japan Communications Inc. (JCI) was established on May 24, 1996 as the company to fulfill the objective of the Ministry of Communications and Internal Affairs (MIC) that next-generation Internet, driven by mobile communications, should form the foundation of Japan’s future economic growth. JCI’s business model later became to be called MVNO. In March 2009, JCI achieved interconnection with NTT docomo under MIC’s policies to liberalize the mobile market. This interconnection meant that consumers could purchase mobile connectivity (SIMs) from sources other than the mobile carriers for the first time and led to the creation of the “kakuyasu SIM” market. Now it is time for companies from all industries, not just cellular companies, to embed mobile connectivity in to their devices. As the MVNO pioneer and the world’s first mobile solutions enabler, we are using our strong technological vision and know-how in implementation to build the next generation platforms required to support the next phase of global economic growth, which will originate in Japan. Offices are located in Tokyo, Japan, and Denver (Colorado), Atlanta (Georgia) and Ponte Vedra (Florida) in the United States. JCI is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (Securities Code: 9424)
