JCI launches large data "VISITOR SIM" for travelers to Japan

PDF format

On December 2nd, Japan Communications Inc. (hereafter referred to as JCI, Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo) will be releasing new "VISITOR SIM" for travelers to Japan which can be used for 21Days with 5GB date usage.

Since "Visitor SIM" was launched in 2012 many travelers to Japan have purchased and used VISITOR SIM. From this experience, JCI were able to study and find out what travelers demand was and this new VISITOR SIM was made.

Travelers’ usage of the internet had changed over recent years. Travelers only required minimum internet access in the past, but recently as the smartphone is changing, they require data usage more than before to use google map, upload high resolution photo to SNS, make phone calls using VoIP, or even watch their home country’s TV program and watch Youtube.

For this needs, we are providing VISITOR SIM with 5GB, which is a pretty big amount of data, with low price.

Previous VISITOR SIM's usable period was for 7 days or 14 days which was mainly for short term travelers. However Japan is welcoming foreigners more than ever that the number of long term stays has been increasing ever since. Therefore we have changed the usable period to 21 days. Also for customers who want to extend the usable period or add data amount you can charge it from 1day with 1GB per 500yen. VISITOR SIM's package price is 3,480 yen. There will be no data restriction.

We are very proud of Japan's internet environment and would like foreigners to experience the same technology. For that reason we released the VISITOR SIM in 2012 and have been developing this field ever since. We have sold the VISITOR SIM not only in Japan but in overseas as well. In addition, in regards to the issue foreigners had faced with the Japan Radio Act when they purchased SIMs in Japan, we have tacked this issue head on by appealing to the authorities for a revision and have been successful in getting it revised.

JCI will keep providing products for end users as well as providing b-mobile platform to MVNO and to partners and will be making products, planning and developing new services for foreign travelers from all over the world so they can use and enjoy Japanese advanced internet technology.

About Japan Communications Inc.

Japan Communications Inc. (JCI) was established on May 24, 1996 as the company to fulfill the objective of the Ministry of Communications and Internal Affairs (MIC) that next-generation Internet, driven by mobile communications, should form the foundation of Japan’s future economic growth. JCI’s business model later became to be called MVNO. In March 2009, JCI achieved interconnection with NTT docomo under MIC’s policies to liberalize the mobile market. This interconnection meant that consumers could purchase mobile connectivity (SIMs) from sources other than the mobile carriers for the first time and led to the creation of the "kakuyasu SIM" market. Now it is time for companies from all industries, not just cellular companies, to embed mobile connectivity in to their devices. As the MVNO pioneer and the world’s first mobile solutions enabler, we are using our strong technological vision and know-how in implementation to build the next generation platforms required to support the next phase of global economic growth, which will originate in Japan. Offices are located in Tokyo, Japan, and Denver (Colorado), Atlanta (Georgia) and Ponte Vedra (Florida) in the United States. JCI is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. (Securities Code: 9424). As JCI's Corporate governance policy, outside directors comprise the majority of the Board of Director and all outside directors are independent directors.
